Plastic Mag (UK) : Romain Swan releases brand new single

Over the years, Romain Swan has built his career on emotion, compelling storytelling and an enduring connection to his music. A singer-songwriter, guitarist and performer, the Paris-based artist first discovered his passion for music at the age of 14 when he first picked up the guitar.

Initially inspired by the rock and metal of the 80s and 90s, he ultimately found his own voice in the pop rock sphere, making his debut in 2019 with All These Things, released via the independent label Hit The Tone Records. His original sound and emotive songwriting quickly gained traction, leading to performances across Parisian venues and early industry support from figures like Michel Drucker and Gérald Dahan.

Romain’s career took another leap forward when he signed his first publishing deal with Ducosphere, an independent label with an impressive track record, having worked with Bonnie Tyler, Les Forbans and Charles Dumont. His 2022 EP Singulier, featuring the single “Au Singulier,” confirmed his status as an artist to watch while the release earned widespread attention from major national outlets and secured extensive radio support.

Now, Romain Swan delivers his most powerful and personal work yet with his brand new single titled “Post (Love) Mortem,” a track that marks a striking shift in his sound. Carrying the weight and intensity of metalcore, cut with the melodic accessibility of pop-focused rock, the single is a cathartic exploration of heartbreak, betrayal and self-reinvention unlike anything he’s released before, embracing both the darkness and the strength that comes from enduring emotional turmoil.

The song is an artistic distillation of a deeply turbulent year, where Romain faced the collapse of relationships and battled through mental and emotional struggles but rather than retreat, he channels his pain into music, taking on the persona of the “villain” in his own story, not as a symbol of defeat, but as a means of self-protection and rebirth. Jumping straight into a dark soundscape of crunching guitar chokes and rattling trap style beat, the strike of drums ushers in the brooding chug of guitar riffs capped by Romain’s commanding vocal performance, backed by moody choral voices.

Rising to an anthemic chorus of charging rock aesthetic and gripping melodic vocal leads driven by punching drums, it’s an epic burst of theatrical musical energy before the arrangement glides through moments of stripped-back, dreamy instrumentation. From start to finish, with “Post (Love) Mortem,” Romain Swan delivers an enthralling musical experience brimming with thrilling energy and full of twists of turns. It’s a spectacular showcase of his originality and performance panache, revealing a new side to his incredible musical vision that’s sure to win over both new and existing fans around the world.
