The Punk Head (USA) : Romain Swan On the Making Of “Post (Love) Mortem”

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Post (Love) Mortem?"

The idea for "Post (Love) Mortem" came after reflecting on a turbulent year in my personal life. It was a period marked by emotional struggles and mental betrayals that completely shifted how I viewed relationships. The song was born from the realization that embracing my darker side wasn’t a weakness but a way to protect myself and move forward. It’s about accepting that you can be the “villain” in someone’s story while still finding strength and redemption in that role.

Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for this song?

Absolutely. One standout moment was when we recorded the vocal takes for the chorus. I remember pouring all the raw emotion I’d bottled up into those lines, and it felt like a release. There was also this magical moment in the studio with Julien Maurin (my co-composer) where we experimented with layering subtle, haunting harmonies over the main riff, and it completely transformed the intensity of the track. It gave the song that extra edge we were searching for.

Can you describe the emotions or feelings you hope "Post (Love) Mortem" evokes in listeners?

I want listeners to feel a mix of catharsis and empowerment. The song is heavy and emotional, but it’s not meant to leave you in a dark place—it’s about finding the light within the darkness. I hope it resonates with anyone who has ever felt lost or betrayed and inspires them to rise stronger. It’s a reminder that even when you hit rock bottom, you can rebuild and emerge as your best self.

Can you tell us more about you as an artist?

I’m a singer, guitarist, and songwriter with a passion for blending intense energy with introspective storytelling. My music draws inspiration from a mix of influences like Metallica, Imagine Dragons, and Green Day, but I always strive to create something uniquely personal. For me, music is about connection—sharing emotions, struggles, and victories in a way that feels authentic. Whether on stage or in the studio, I’m always focused on making my work resonate deeply with listeners.

How do you stay inspired and motivated to continue pushing boundaries in your art?

Inspiration comes from everywhere—personal experiences, conversations, or even the struggles I see in the world around me. I’m motivated by the idea that music has the power to reach people on an emotional level and create meaningful change. Pushing boundaries is about taking risks and being unafraid to evolve, both as an artist and as a person. I remind myself that every song is an opportunity to explore something new and connect with someone out there who might need it.
